Vienna 2025

When: October 28-30 2025.

What: Three days to continue the growth of the Reproducible Builds effort.

As a follow up to the seven previous reproducible builds workshops in Athens 2015, Berlin 2016, Berlin 2017, Paris 2018, Marrakech 2019, Venice 2022, Hamburg 2023 and Hamburg 2024 the reproducible builds folks have met again! And just like previous years, the heart of the workshop were three days of moderated sessions with the goals outlined just below.

Where:
Fasangasse Seminarzentrum
ibsc Seminar Center
Fasangasse 25
1030 Vienna
Austria

It will be followed by three extra days of pure hacking time, October 31, November 1-2 2025, for all of those who wish to stay longer.

Goals

As previously, the exact content of the meeting will be shaped by the participants, these are our main goals as organizers:

Location

The event will take place at Fasangasse Seminarzentrum in Vienna, Austria.

Above is the main seminar room. Below are the two breakout spaces.

The venue is quite easily reachable by public transport and located rather close to the main train station, it's either three tram stops away or 1.5km walking. See the travel section below for more information.

To enable us to focus on our workshop and it's goals, freshly prepared local food will probably be provided at the venue for lunch and for dinners we are exploring options currently. There will be nice food for all common diets, more updates and in doubt, please contact us.

Participation costs

Attendance to the summit is free of charge!
If you'll be attending on behalf of your company, corporate registration options are available, please contact us if you are interested in that!

We are working to confirm sponsors to support the event, who will offset the shared expenses for everybody (meeting room, stationary, meals, ...). If you or your company/organization can help out, please reach out to us.

In an effort to maximize inclusion and expand the diversity of the community, we are offering additional travel support on a case by case basis. We invite first-time attendees and those in financial need to apply for travel funding. We also invite people from groups traditionally underrepresented in free software to apply for travel funding, including:

We can also provide support to active Reproducible Builds contributors for whom this expense would be difficult to afford.
Check this page for more.

Code of Conduct

The organisers are committed to providing events where all participants feel safe. Attendees are expected to treat all people with respect and help create a welcoming environment. If you notice behaviour that fails to meet this standard, please speak up (aloud or in private to the organisers).

Travel to Vienna and the venue

FIXME ALL
The nearest train station is Vienna main train station/Wien Hauptbahnhof opened in 2015. Most international (IC, ICE, EC, RJ, RJX and NJ) and many regional trains (REX, RE, ..) stop here. Some international connections including those of the private train company "Westbahn" only stop at the second big train station "Westbahnhof". Both train stations offer connections to the municipial public transport network (see below). The nearest airpot is Vienna International Airport (VIE), which - despite the name - is located slightly to the south of Vienna in Schwechat. There are frequent train and bus connections from the airport to the city, and fixed price taxi service to any address in Vienna.

The venue is quite easily reachable by public transport, from both the airport and the train stations:

From the main train station take the tram "O" line for 3 stations and exit at "Köblgasse" station. From there it's a few meters to Fasangasse 25.

From the Westbahnhof train station take the metro line "U3" for 7 stations and exit at "Landstraße / Wien-Mitte" station. From there take the tram line "O" for 4 stations and exit at "Köblgasse". From there it's a few meters to Fasangasse 25.

From the airport take the fast expensive train "CAT" and exit at "Landstraße / Wien-Mitte" station. From there take the tram line "O" for 4 stations and exit at "Köblgasse". From there it's a few meters to Fasangasse 25.The CAT train requires an extra ticket (24.90€ for both directions)!

From the airport take regular local train "S7" or "REX7" and exit at "Rennweg" station. From there take the tram line "O" for 1 station and exit at "Köblgasse", or walk. From there it's a few meters to Fasangasse 25.The first part of the train journey from the airport to the city boundary is not covered by a ticket for Vienna, ensure you buy a ticket covering the full journey (2.10€ extra).

From the main train station by foot or bike leave the train station at the back exit "Hauptbahnhof Ost/Karl Popper Str.", turn left into Canetti Straße and follow it. Passing through the Schweizer Garden via Schweizer-Garten-Straße you will end up at the top of Fasangasse, which you can follow downwards until you reach number 25. The whole walk is almost exactly 1km: OSM route

Tickets: You can buy tickets and look up routes using the WienMobil website or app. It's also possible to buy physical tickets at all train and metro stations, near the front entrance of trams and at tobbacco shops (called "Tabak Trafik"). There is no option to buy tickets in busses! Some ticket types have to be stamped once at the start of a trip when entering a metro station or a bus/tram - these are valid for a full one direction trip afterwards, including changing lines. There's also 24h/48h/72h or 7d passes which don't require per-trip stamping.

The public transport operates every day and coverage is quite extensive. Some bus lines only run on weekdays, and metro and train service is replaced by night busses on weekday nights (those before Mo-Fr). On nights before Saturday, Sunday or public holidays, the metro lines are running all night.
